Applications for Community Center Advisory Team due Monday

There are just five days left to apply for a spot on the newly-formed Community Center Advisory Team, and I’m making one more push here as a call for applicants.

No one is a stranger to the City’s financial challenges, and Seattle Parks & Recreation took a heavy hit as we worked to finalize the budget for the coming year.

I’ve directed a focus on the operation of our community centers. Working in tandem with the Parks department, we’re crafting an advisory team to get down to brass tacks in evaluating and recommending the future course for these assets. Team members will consider the way community centers currently operate, review what other cities are doing, consider alternative operating models, evaluate public input, and assess options for partnerships.  In addition to members from the general public, the team will be comprised of representatives from the Board of Park Commissioners, employee unions, department employees, the Associated Recreation Council, and City Council and City Budget Office staff.

The team will work diligently through May and the expectation is that a final report will be delivered to City Council in June of this year.

If you’ve a regular user of a community center and you’re able to work in concert with others for the greater good, then I encourage you to apply. Please submit a statement (no more than 1,000 words total) addressing the following questions:

  • How and where have you been involved with a community center?
  • What will you bring to the table?

Please submit your statement via e-mail to Susan Golub: susan.golub@seattle.govThe deadline is Monday, January 10 at 5 p.m.
